enrichment: characterization and feasibility studies on two dielectrophoretic platforms. ISAC CYTO Conference, Montreal, Canada. May 2023.

Dielectrophoresis (DEP) utilizes non- uniform electric fields to exert a force on particles. Cells respond to these fields in a manner dependent on their biophysical properties. By characterizing the frequency response to a given field, label-free sorting and enrichment of cell subpopulations from heterogeneous samples is possible. A large body of literature has investigated these parameters with unique setups and limited cell varieties. The technical challenge coupled with the uncertainty in the breadth of data has limited the commercialization and adoption of DEP for biological applications. The work described here compares the ability of two commercially available DEP platforms to discern various cell types and establishes consistency of characterizations.
