Microfluidic Manufacturing Engineer
Full-Time | On-Site, Blacksburg VA
ABOUT THE ROLE
Cytorecovery develops microfluidic devices for downstream biomedical applications including dielectrophoretic cell sorting and rare cell isolation. We are seeking a motivated scientist with hands-on microfluidic fabrication experience to join our team and take a central role in device manufacturing, process development, and R&D operations.
This is a technically demanding role with significant autonomy. A successful candidate will manage and improve our existing device portfolio while contributing directly to new platform development. You will work closely with leadership on a daily basis and have meaningful impact on the scientific direction of the company.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Manufacture and quality-control PDMS or other material-based microfluidic devices across a portfolio of designs.
• Maintain, refine, and expand standard operating procedures for all fabrication and assembly workflows.
• Operate and maintain cleanroom environment to Level 7 ISO Standards.
• Support cell culture operations and dielectrophoretic sorting experiments in collaboration with team members.
• Manage reagent and consumable inventory and coordinate with external suppliers.
• Contribute to experimental design, data analysis, and scientific documentation.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
• B.S. or higher in Biochemistry, Nanoscience, Biomedical Engineering, Materials Science, or a closely related discipline
• Rigorous attention to detail
• Strong organizational skills
• Familiarity with cleanroom protocols and contamination control practices
• Strong documentation practices and comfort developing and following SOPs
• Ability to work independently and communicate effectively in a small team environment with minimal supervision
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Prior experience in a startup or early-stage commercial research environment.
• Peer-reviewed publication record in a relevant field.
• Hands-on experience with soft lithography, PDMS fabrication, or microfluidic device manufacturing.
• Hands-on experience with product development or quality control for biomedical devices.
